Pinion Coupling — Mahindra Maximo (26‑T) — Description

A pinion coupling (26‑T) for the Mahindra Maximo is a driveline component used in the vehicle’s rear axle and propeller shaft system. It connects the propeller shaft to the differential/pinion gear assembly, enabling torque from the transmission to be transferred to the rear wheels.

What It Is:

  • A splined flange‑type coupling that fits on the end of the rear driveline shaft and engages with the pinion gear input of the differential. The “26‑T” refers to 26 splines/teeth on the part that match the mating splined shaft.

  • This splined design ensures a secure and aligned mechanical connection between the shaft and pinion interface so torque can flow efficiently. Gear couplings like this are commonly used to join rotating shafts in vehicles where power must be transmitted between parts that can move relative to each other.

Primary Functions:

  • Torque Transmission: Transfers rotational power from the propeller shaft into the rear differential/pinion gear so the wheels are driven.

  • Secure Driveline Connection: The 26 splines ensure the coupling fits snugly with the corresponding splined shaft, preventing slip under load.

  • Alignment & Stability: Keeps the driveline aligned and stable under varying load conditions and suspension movement, reducing vibration and wear on surrounding parts.

Where It Fits:

  • Installed at the end of the propeller/drive shaft, where it mates with the pinion input of the rear axle differential. It acts as the interface that allows torque from the engine and transmission to reach the wheels via the differential.
