Half Yoke — Leyland Dost — Description
A half yoke is a driveline component used in the propeller shaft / universal joint (U‑joint) assembly of vehicles like the Ashok Leyland Dost light commercial truck.
What It Is:
A half yoke is one half of the pair of yokes that connect the propeller shaft to the universal joint cross (spider).
It typically has forked ends or a flange with openings where the bearing caps of the universal joint cross fit.
Function:
Supports the universal joint: The half yoke holds two bearing cups of the U‑joint cross, enabling the propeller shaft to articulate while transmitting torque.
Transfers torque: It helps transmit rotational power from the gearbox or driveline to the rear axle while accommodating angular movement between shafts.
Allows flexibility: It works with the universal joint cross to allow the driveline to flex as the suspension moves without binding, reducing vibration and wear.
Where It Fits:
Installed on one end of a propeller shaft’s U‑joint assembly, paired with another yoke on the adjoining shaft section or flange.
