21 Teeth Splined Component — Sliding Yoke (21‑T) for Dost Plus — Description
A sliding yoke (also called a slip yoke or slip joint yoke) is a key part of the propeller shaft (driveshaft) assembly in rear‑drive vehicles like the Ashok Leyland Dost Plus. It connects the propeller shaft to the transmission output shaft and allows the shaft length to vary as the vehicle’s suspension moves.
🔩 What It Is
A splined yoke with 21 teeth/splines that matches the corresponding splined section on the transmission output shaft (or companion shaft).
The internal splines in the yoke engage the external splines on the shaft, so they rotate together while still allowing axial movement.
⚙️ Primary Function
Length Adjustment: As the vehicle travels over bumps or during suspension movement, the distance between the transmission and the rear axle changes slightly. The sliding yoke slides in and out on the splines to compensate for those changes, preventing driveline binding and reducing stress on universal joints and bearings.
Torque Transfer: While allowing movement, it still transmits rotational force (engine torque) from the gearbox into the propeller shaft.
Smooth Operation: This movement helps smooth out driveline action and protects components like U‑joints from excessive wear.
